About Us
Jay has over 10 years of horticultural experience including 6 years maintaining pear and apple orchards throughout Herefordshire. He has been growing vegetables and herbs for 5 years and has adopted the no-dig method of gardening. He has also improved his knowledge of soil biology, biochar making, permaculture and regenerative horticulture techniques, and successfully incorporated these methods into his growing methods. He is currently working for a local well-established plant nursery doing a 2-year apprenticeship as a crop technician.

Jess’ grandfather started growing strawberry plants and then blackcurrant bushes for Ribena. Her parents took this on and started growing a larger range of soft fruit bushes in the early 1990’s, propagating and selling blackcurrants for Ribena, and soft fruit plants to the garden and commercial trade. The farm was organic for over 10 years, before turning to a low-input method, in the belief that unstressed plants are healthy ones. Jess grew up with this business and the knowledge, and is keen to pursue her passion for propagating plants, making the most of over 25 years of experience in doing so. She is also interested in soil structure and health, and believes there is a lot to learn about how the soil works.

We started Nourished Earth in 2025. It is a small natural plant nursery with a worm farm producing worm cast, composting worms, worm tea and biochar. We believe that healthy plants begin with the soil, so if the plant has what it needs underground, it will be a healthy and disease-resistant plant on top. Our plants are grown in living soil, infused with our own worm cast and fertilised with our own worm tea, so you're adding these beneficial microbes into your soil when you plant the plants into your garden or growing space.
